As a reader og Emira and Laurens site the boss of you, I was aware that they were writing on a book, but I had no intention of buying it. (even if I read, and still read, their site) I have plowed through a great deal of business books, the last was Craft Inc., and didn’t think I needed another take on the indie/crafty/handmade business subject. However, when I read Loobylu’s glowing review of the first chapters, my curiosity was sparked. I mean, it would be silly to turn down great advice, right?

I bought it from amazon, started reading, and are now half way through it. I haven’t regretted the purchase so far. It’s actually a great book, with a lot of sound advice. A lot of what they write about is not news to me; you can read the same in other business books, but there’s something about their style of writing that makes this book so compelling. I’m not good at doing excercises from books like this one, I always think that I can do it later, think things through in my head etc, but this time I have actually sat down and written down everything they have asked of me. Lauren and Emira convinced me that it would be good for my business.

The book covers everything you need to know, and has a list of resources too. These are not very useful for me, as I’m based neither in Canada nor USA. I’ll have to dig up country specific information on my own.

What really makes me like this book above others in the same niche is that it is written in a clear, concise and humorous way, and it shows you the ropes without getting too much into the crafty side of things. It invites you to establish and build your business on your own terms, and I particularly like that.

If you’re in the market for a build-your-business book, I cannot reccomend The Boss of You enough.

You’re the second person in as many weeks to talk about this book. Might need to look into it further.
